Yeah, it’s another week with no book review. Sorry!! I don’t have a great excuse, other than the last book I read is getting a review posted later this month so that it can keep close to the publication date, and I’ve been feeling busier than usual. But I figured we could talk about some of the things I’m working on reading now and next, and see where we go from there.
Ready? Let’s go.
At the moment, I’m reading READING THE DEAD by J.B. Cameron as a review request. My Kindle tells me I’m only 5% of the way through the book, so I don’t have a solid opinion on it yet, but it seems pretty cool at the moment. The other review request I have coming up is LET THERE BE LINDA by Rich Leder. The description absolutely sold me on the book, and I’m excited to see where it leads. (Anything described as “Monty Python meets Tarantino” is worth a look, in my opinion.) It’s slated to be published at the beginning of July, so with luck, the review will be up at the end of this month.
I also received a copy of VILLAINOUS by Kristen Brand after reading and reviewing the first book in the series, HERO STATUS. I absolutely adored HERO STATUS and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Valentina’s point of view. (Since if I remember correctly, it’s from her POV.)
Of course in addition to that, I’ve just recently bought Laura Brown’s SIGNS OF ATTRACTION and I’m incredibly excited to read that. Laura and I have been critique partners/beta readers for each other in the past, and I’m excited to delve into this book. I didn’t get a chance to beta this one because of time constraints, and it’s got a Deaf protagonist! AND a Hard of Hearing protagonist! (If you didn’t know my deep and abiding love for the Deaf community and ASL…well, you do now.) And it’s a romance! Wheee!
AND and and of course, I still haven’t managed to read THE HUMAN by Stephanie Erickson yet. I don’t know why. I know I’ll have it done in like…an hour or so. I can’t help it. She’s just too damn good. But it is a quick read, so I’m sure it’ll be up here soon enough.
While I haven’t bought ONLY THE OPEN by M.C.A. Hogarth yet, it’s next on my list to get. I’m holding out until I see how my finances shake out; I’m running very low on funds, and it’s a little nervous-making. I’ll be moving next month, and then I may have a better handle on all of this. Until then, we’ll see how it all pans out.
After that, I have a metric ton (possibly literally) of e-books I picked up for free or cheap on BookBub or elsewhere on Amazon, and they just keep coming and coming and coming. Eventually I’ll have to get through all of them. I’m caught up on my NetGalley reads for the time being (that’s the book being reviewed later this month) but knowing me, I’ll be back on the website perusing around for new and exciting things all too soon.
The benefit in all of this is that this weekend, I have a long car trip with my mother to take. It’ll be something like 6 hours in the car each way, and the event we’re going to is a social endeavor with people who are really more my parents’ friends than mine (though I love them dearly, don’t get me wrong!) and thus, I’ll likely be sitting around doing little for chunks of time. (Especially since I doubt any of the kids will be around. Maybe the youngest. Not sure–and then again, I think I’ve got almost a decade on her. Not so much to talk about.) So I’m hoping to get caught up on reading during that time, and I’ll scribble some ideas for reviews in the process, and maybe by this time next week I won’t feel so incredibly behind.
For once.
Until next time, luminaries!
