I am not lost…

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Elliot Wake’s work. CAM GIRL is one of the books I point at every time someone asks me for a book request. (…As long as I think they’d be okay with the subject matter. Cause it’s…uh. A bit dark. XD)

It’s also not a huge secret that I’m a sucker for the teacher/student trope in romance, though I can be a little picky about how it’s executed. But I’m like that with most romances, so that’s not specific to the trope. So when I realized that Wake’s first novel (I believe, back when he was writing as Leah Raeder) was a student/teacher romance, I jumped on it so fast.

(And you know, let it sit on my Kindle for way too long. But…again. That’s kinda my MO.)

BOOK REVIEW: BLACK IRIS by Elliot Wake (writing as Leah Raeder)

I know all of you are probably familiar with my love of this author, particularly his book CAM GIRL, especially if you watch any of my YouTube videos. When BAD BOY came out in December, I was all set to by it instantly, but was told it might help to read BLACK IRIS first, as some of the characters overlapped, and it might spoil the book a bit.

Of course, I was more than willing to pick up another of Wake’s books, and dove in enthusiastically.

Let’s Talk Favorites

One of my most dreaded questions whenever someone finds out that I’m a reader is “so what’s your favorite book?” or its brother question, “so who’s your favorite author?” I have absolutely no idea how to answer this question, because for most of my life, I’ve never had an answer. I have someone I could probably point to as a favorite author now, but a favorite book? With a gun to my head, I’m not sure I could choose just one.

CAM GIRL probably isn’t a book which would have naturally shown up on my radar. Granted, my radar is pretty shabby and doesn’t pick up a lot of stuff, but it’s still outside what most websites would recommend to me. Which is unfortunate, since this is exactly the kind of thing I find fascinating. The cam industry, much like the rest of the adult entertainment industry, isn’t something “nice people” talk about. It’s something you have to go to a distant no-windows building off of a highway exit for; it’s something you search for on your computer at two in the morning; it’s what you hide under the mattress so those around you don’t find it.

But a friend of mine from Twitter raved about it, and I said “hey, why not? Sounds like it could be good.” I bought the book almost entirely sight unseen, and dove in.

One word: wow.
