Schedules and Writing and Videos…?

Good afternoon, my faithful blog followers. I appreciate anyone reading this, since it means that you’ve stuck around even when I’ve got dark. Thanks so much! Here’s the scoop:

I want to try and start writing in here consistently again. I’ve been watching my friend and fellow writer Denise Drespling’s videos on YouTube lately and seeing her blogs, and it makes me want to be a part of that world again. (Don’t know who Denise is? For shame! Check out her blog here and/or her YouTube here.) So if I’m going to get back into this, it means getting back on this blog and poking at my keyboard for a while and hopefully spelling out words to go to you. I have books to read and review, and probably topics to talk about! Why am I not blogging?!

Well, if you’ve followed me long enough, you probably know why. (Spoilers: depression kills motivation. So much. So so much.) My hopeful plan is below the cut.

Today’s been a good day, so that’s when I’m tapping this out for you. I’ve been productive, the sun is shining, it’s making me happy, and I don’t feel like junk. THEREFORE. Steps are as follows:

  • Try to blog once a week, at least, again. This may be book review, this may be me talking about writing stuff, this may be who knows what. But get something up on the site at least once a week.
  • READ! I don’t know what happens to my reading drive sometimes, but it falls off a cliff and I can’t find it for ages, and that’s not a thing I like. Also, it makes reviewing books very difficult when you have not read any. Since I have a bookshelf full of books I haven’t read (and a stack next to it, and a Trader Joe’s bag filled next to that…) there is no excuse for my not reading. (Also, no job still! So look at all the reading time!)
  • WRITE MORE, SERIOUSLY, COME ON NOW. I’ve started to (finally, finally) get back into the swing of writing, through the help of my trusty fallback skill, fanfiction. (Don’t hate!) I’ve been making edits to my manuscript for grad school, and looking at the multitude of novels glaring at me to work on them again. I’ve always said that I need a routine when I’m unemployed/depressed/otherwise unoccupied with my time, so why haven’t I been doing it? Time to get typing again.
  • Video? This is really where I’d appreciate some input from y’all, and part of why I’m writing this blog in the first place. See below.

I’ve known a bunch of authors who regularly make videos talking about their work, topics in the world around there, books they’ve read, and a whole bunch of other topics. As I said above, Denise seems to be part of a community that makes these kind of videos every week, and they always have really interesting topics. I used to be a somewhat active vlogger (back in my youth, oh goodness…) and I had a lot of fun with those videos. One November, I essentially live-vlogged my NaNo experience. (Still finished early too. Man. I was industrious back then.) So I’ve been thinking about getting back into the swing of things. Maybe some video reviews, seeing if I can’t find a community to hook up with, that kind of thing.

Would you all be interested in watching something like that? I’d need to find a way to get a better backdrop behind me (since, ya know, my dining room just isn’t that interesting…) and whatnot, but it’s something I’m thinking of. It would give me another goal for weekly things, and I like having goals.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Thanks so much for mentioning me!!! Yes, do videos! It’s so much fun and the booktube community is amazing. Love those people 🙂 Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better and getting into the swing of things and WRITING!
