I am not lost…

August 30, 2017

Guess what! Just what you’ve all been waiting for! ANOTHER MCAH REVIEW no but seriously, I’ve gotten a new trilogy of hers, and she’s got a big promo for one of them right around now, and THIS IS THE TIME TO BE TALKING ABOUT MICAH. *coughs* Just saying.

In any event, if you’ve been on the blog for any length of time, you’ll know that M.C.A. Hogarth is one of my all-time favorite authors. I’ve always up to read and review her work, and it’s been a while since I delved into anything. (Mea culpa, mea culpa.) Having spent as much time in her Pelted universe, stepping outside of it–no matter how sure I am of her talent–is a little unnerving. The Blood Ladders trilogy is definitely not the Peltedverse, and AN HEIR TO THORNS AND STEEL is book one of Morgan Locke’s adventure into worlds he truly never believed to be completely real.

BOOK REVIEW: THE HUMAN by Stephanie Erickson

I forced myself to wait a bit on this one. I mainlined THE FATE and THE REAPER in one day. If I wanted to make my enjoyment of the series last, I needed to not read EVERYTHING in all one fell weekend-swoop. So while on my long car trip recently, I allowed this to be my final book read. (And literally, I finished it just before I got home. Very impressive, me.)

What a way to finish a series. SPOILERS BELOW. (Some of them major. Please don’t click unless you’re sure. I’m talking character death kind of spoilers.)

For anyone who doesn’t want to spoil themselves, the tl;dr version is: Amazing book, brilliant finale, made me feel all kinds of feelings I didn’t want. 100% brilliant, absolute five stars.

BOOK REVIEW: THE REAPER by Stephanie Erickson

…What, you really expected me to read some other book next? NOT WHEN THE HUMAN IS COMING OUT TOMORROW, MY FRIENDS. I MUST BE PREPARED. *coughs* But in all honesty, after the cliffhanger of THE FATE, there really wasn’t anything else I wanted to read more than this. We take the reins behind Michaela, the Reaper friend of Penn’s, for this book. Cool! This was going to be awesome!

…Oh, poor naive me. You thought you were getting something resolved.

BOOK REVIEW: THE FATE by Stephanie Erickson

So after checking out the Unseen trilogy by Ms. Erickson, I was eager to see what the rest of her writing looked like. I’ve purchased at least one other book of hers, but haven’t started reading it yet. (Like about three-quarters of the books I own.) I was planning on reading it next…at least, until I started getting emails about a new book of hers coming out.

A book three.

That was it. I was getting ahead of the game on this one, for once in my life.

I thought about reviewing these books separately, but I read them in such quick order one after the other, I think it’s fair to put America’s whole story into one review.

I came across THE SELECTION, book one in this trilogy, in a Barnes & Noble several months ago when I was on a bit of a book buying spree. It seemed like it might be interesting, so I hopped onto Goodreads just to see what some reviewers were saying about it.

The first page was filled with one-star reviews. Needless to say, I didn’t buy it.

BOOK REVIEW: UNDIVIDED by Stephanie Erickson

Trilogies–in addition to¬†any serial longer than that–are difficult to complete. There is so much any one reader is going to want or expect from the conclusion. Does the plot turn out the way they expected? Does their favorite character survive the action? Does their favorite couple, their OTP if I may, get together at the end? The list goes on.

Some books do this very well. Others leave something to be desired. I am exceptionally disappointed in the fact that UNDIVIDED seems to fall in the second category.

At long last. I finally read this book. AT LONG LAST. (Spoilers for books 1-2 under the cut.)

BOOK REVIEW: UNFORGIVEN by Stephanie Erickson

Yes, I know, I know. I talked to you about book 1 in this series last week. I’m sorry. But I wanted this book to sit on its own, because it really begins to delve into the meat and potatoes of this series, and I didn’t want to bog down the last review. This one may be a bit shorter than usual because of that.

I don’t normally post on weekends, but I want this to come out before Valentine’s Day–so have a special book review! Disclaimer: I was provided copies of all three novellas in exchange for my honest review.

And hey, a nice tropical romance series is just what a chilly February weekend needs, yeah?

Curse of the Third Book

(Man, that sounds like an awesome short story or something. Anyway.)

I seem to have a curse laid upon me when it comes to obtaining books. I seem to have brought it upon myself, way back in high school, unknowingly. It began with an author I have come to love dearly, and am glad of having become aware of, but…well, let me tell you the tale.
