FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful Thursday – Actions Speak Louder Than Words

As I’ve been working on QUEST TO KARANTIRI more in preparation for my Patreon, as soon as I saw this topic, I knew that I needed to write to it. It doesn’t matter that it was from the beginning of the month. I WANT IT NOW.

In any event, this is Tarenthal and Carinth, after seeing Celita off. I overshot the word minimum by about 100. (Go figure.) As always, thank you Lyn for the awesome website!

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful Thursday – Ugly Duckling

I’m not sure where I wanted to go with this, and I don’t know where in any established time line this might take place, but it’s Celita and Tarenthal from QUEST TO KARANTIRI, sometime in her first visit to the elven woods. As usual, prompt is taken from Lyn Thorne-Alder’s Thimbleful Thursday, and I love her dearly for having this place to share fiction.

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful – Runs in the Family

This one is over word count. I had a good cut-off point and my characters viscerally rebelled against me. I don’t like cutting them off if I don’t have to.

As always, this is pulled from Lyn Thorne-Alder’s Thimbleful Thursday prompts. My prompt takes place in the world of Karantiri, but it’s from a similar time period as “Iron Out the Difficulty.” Enjoy!

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful – Sword of Damocles

I’ve had the song of the same name from Rocky Horror stuck in my head ever since I saw the prompt. Now just to write something that isn’t a boy toy in gold lamé hot pants.

Again, this prompt is pulled from the ever-talented Lyn Thorne-Alder’s Thimbleful Thursday posts, which are truly designed to save unimaginative wrecks like me. 🙂 The original challenge is 500 words. I somehow doubt I’ll stay within that.

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful – Peace and Quiet

I have no idea how close to the word count I am. *checks* Okay I’m like 150 or so over. So sue me. 😉 I wasn’t sure what to do with this one, but it ended up being some foreshadowing (and some future peeks of what’s to come) in the Karantiri world. Idiom of the week is “peace and quiet.” Enjoy! 🙂

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful – Turn Over a New Leaf/Hold Your Fire

These two were short, so I’ve smooshed them together into one mega-microfic. (*cough*) It follows my dearly beloved Tarenthal of the Karantiri stories, very early in his time in the Kalvarine woods.

As always, check out Thimbleful Thursday, and all of Lyn’s projects.

FICTION FRIDAY: Thimbleful-Iron Out the Difficulty

Another Thimbleful Thursday post for you! This was meant to be between 450-550 words, and it’s just over (sorry, Lyn) but it just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. This is a very very very far sequel-ish to QUEST TO KARANTIRI. We’ve met Kelina, the princess of the Metadrine elves before. The young man she’s speaking to, not so much. I had a little bit of leeway with the wording, since “iron” in terms like this don’t quite translate perfectly, but…I think you’ll see. 562 words.

Kelina took a deep breath. “We’re never going to be able to do this. If your parents find out you’ve been here…”

“What are they going to do?” She’d never seen his stance so sure. “We have to do something, Kelina. No one from any of our kingdoms has been able to make this work, but we can. It’s just a matter of…smoothing things out.”

Fiction Friday: Quest to Karantiri

So at least for now, I’m thinking I’ll use Fridays as a little buffer zone, filled with bits of writing in my various worlds. This gives everyone a chance to meet some of my characters and see some of the worlds, and gives me a chance to keep myself occupied and inspired. So! Since I’ve been re-reading some things lately, I’ve gotten sucked back into the last piece I started as a serial (and will hopefully re-launch), THE QUEST TO KARANTIRI. We follow Celita, a girl of the kingdom of Karantiri, who dreams of adventure and magic, not knowing just how close to it she truly is.

But for this piece, I’m focusing on one of the sideline characters: Tarenthal, a mixed-blood elf living in the eastern woods, and a guard who meets Celita very early on in her first trip to Kalvara, the elven lands. A misfit ill-matched to both elven worlds he came from, the human child speaks to him at a deeper level than some of the others. This is his point of view, around when he first met Celita.

Chapter 13 is Live!

Woo! It’s getting hard to fit in these posts along with my NaNoWriMo count, but I’m still managing! (If I’m ever late, you’ll know why…)

So let’s not waste words! Straight to the preview! (This is a shorter chapter, I will warn you!)
