I am not lost…

January 27, 2017

So in deciding to write these to prompts I found, I’m rapidly realizing that I don’t have nearly the amount of prompts I thought I did…and the ones I do have aren’t as good as I remember. This is irksome, and I’m going to be on a quest to fix it. BUT! For now, I’ve found a fun one. As always, feel free to write your own interpretation of the prompt in the comments.

Prompt: Write about an assassin who is unable to kill a target.

New Projects in the Future

So a while back in this post, I started talking about a slow-burn project I was thinking of. (Because of course, the best time for new ideas to spring up is between November 1-7.) I still poked at it a little during November but not a ton, and now that December is here and I am not swimming in NaNo stoofs, I can take my time to start working on this project.

…you know, and my other manuscripts. DETAILS.

Memory vs. Reality, IRL Edition

I’m jumping back into a topic I was talking a lot about earlier, but it’s been a while, so now you’ve forgotten how manically I was posting about Pokémon there for a while.

…no? You didn’t forget? Well poop. Sorry?

In any event, this is something I came across back when I was relaunched into my childhood, looking at Pokémon and seeing what I spent so much of my childhood on. I found my old Game Boy and all my games, and set out to see what my character looked like, where I’d left them all those years ago.

And I got a bit of a surprise.

August 3, 2016

It’s not often that I get to combine two of my loves into a single post. But lo and behold, bless Scott Cawthon and his desire to tell stories, because he’s helped create a book in a world with better lore than the next six games (besides UNDERTALE) put together.

Needless to say, this review may not make a lot of sense to you if you are not familiar with the underlying games that make up the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. I do believe the book can stand on its own, but knowing the world helps. The premise, in its broadest form, is that there was one a pizzeria chain called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, not dissimilar to Chuck E Cheese’s. Legend has it that someone used one of the animatronic suits to lure children into a back room, murder them, and then hide the bodies in the other suits. The spirits of the children now haunt the suits, and in the games, you play the night guard (?) that the animatronics are trying to kill.

If you’d like to read on, feel free. If not, the tl;dr is that I loved the book and am even more intently determined to figure out the mysteries of the world. I gave it 5*. THERE ARE SPOILERS BENEATH THE CUT. But if you live on the Internet like me, you may have already seen these.

Tales from the Café: Only in the Movies

Time: Saturday, 11:05 pm

It was way past when we should have left, and yet…

And yet. The mopping still wasn’t done–though Dana was almost through with it–bits and pieces still needed to be picked up, and I swear the huge party we’d been working with all evening had only left something like seven minutes earlier. An hour after we closed. There was very little good to be salvaged from this day.

Hey guys! I know this isn’t a Tales story, but that’s actually why I wanted to talk to you all today. I’ve been writing the Tales stories for about four and a half months now (wow, didn’t realize it was so long!) and I’d like to look back on it now.

Dear Non-Reader…

At the end of last month, I believe, the Goodreads group for Tuesday Talks asked us to make a video explaining to the non-readers of the world what we thought they were missing. I had some trouble trying to orient my thoughts into something that made sense in a video, and I figured I’d try a bit later here on the blog. I don’t promise much coherence, but I’ll do my best.

Tales From the Café: Out of the Mouths of…Customers?

Time: Friday, 3:15 pm

I may not have any of my own, but I know if you hang around kids long enough, you’re going to hear some crazy stuff. The Internet has lists of creepy or clever things kids have said with absolutely no prompting. I’d put it out there that it’s not just kids who say these things. I mean, look at politics. Some things that come out of people’s mouths…

That’s not the point. The point is I’ve heard all kinds of people say all kinds of ridiculous stuff. But I’m not sure anything quite beats the woman who was talking to Zöe.

Tales from the Café: Are You Sure?

Time: Wednesday, 1:15 pm.

I’ve gotten my fair share of bizarre requests in my time working, both here and at other customer service places where I’ve been employed. I’ve had odd food questions, I’ve had seating requests that don’t make sense, I’ve had complaints and compliments and all kinds of oddness. Most of it doesn’t even affect me anymore.

But every once in a while, something manages to surprise me. And when it does, it’s always a doozy.

Tales from the Café: Squeaky Clean

Time: Monday, 2:16 pm

I rubbed at my eyes, enjoying the brief respite from the lunch rush. The rushes had been getting later and later as time went on, so despite the fact that normally we’d be done with the busy part of the day by now, I wasn’t taking my chances.

The second I started feeling complacent was the moment we’d get a massive boost at three in the afternoon. Wouldn’t that just be dandy.
